November 2019 – Controls vs Components
The month was largely spent wrangling controls to clear existing components such as the steering column, exhaust and cockpit floor. Fitting the dashboard, cab and seat floors has allowed us to clear most of the control/component fouls and has made the chassis more car-like. Next month we will need to remove the floor and seat bases to fit access hatches top underfloor controls.
We have sourced a suitable AMAL carburettor, it’s missing a few vital parts but they are being sourced separately prior to a thorough overhaul. The engine cannot be started directly through the flywheel because the nearside front wheel blocks access, so a starting mechanism has been designed and is in fabrication. The starting mechanism will allow a cranked handle start, via a chassis mounted chain wheel, chain, and smaller chain wheel attached to the flywheel by a sprag bearing.
