It's not often we get to do rebuild like this so we accepted the challenge eagerly.
The Sunbeam Trike, made around 70 years ago and purchased for young Mary Exelby around 1955 shortly after her birth in Lincolnshire. It was passed down to her children, Simon and Jane who can be seen in the image below riding the trike in approximately 1983.
Many years later the family moved from Lincolnshire down to Somerset and the trike was relinquished by the family. However a close family friend later spotted the trike in a sorry state at an auction and submitted the winning bid of £11.64 for it. He offered it back to the family who gladly accepted it.
The search was on for someone who could return the little trike back to it's former glory. An internet search brought them to us way up here in Bonnie Scotland and Martin Ridding, our bicycle refurbishing expert took the job on.
No expense was spared and with the help of some local businesses - MPG Cycles in Dalbeattie, Sandersons Accident Repair in Kirkgunzeon, Vintage Chrome in Longtown and H Lloyd Cycles - the child's tricycle was slowly brought back to life.
We had the pleasure of a visit from Mary and her husband Steve recently who came up from Somerset to collect their new Sunbeam Tricycle.
